The year 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The Town of Middlebury will join communities across the country in commemorating this historic milestone. Our celebration will honor those who fought for independence, reflect on Middlebury’s place in the Revolutionary War, and affirm the enduring values that have shaped the American people and our form of government.
Selectwoman Jennifer Mahr has been appointed by the Board of Selectmen to coordinate Middlebury’s America 250 efforts.
The Middlebury Historical Society is proud to support this initiative and will assist in planning and carrying out events that highlight the town’s Revolutionary legacy. The Rochambeau Monument—funded entirely by private donors—will serve as the centerpiece of Middlebury’s commemoration and a lasting gift to the community from its benefactors.
